What This Committee Does
The Maui County Affordable Housing Committee reviews ordinances and resolutions related to affordable housing production, inclusionary zoning requirements, housing trust fund allocations, and county land disposals for affordable development. It also monitors implementation of the county's housing plan and affordable housing agreements with developers.
Why You Should Care
Maui has some of the highest housing costs relative to local incomes in the United States. Decisions from this committee determine how many affordable units get built, who qualifies for county assistance, and what developers must provide in exchange for density or height bonuses. Public testimony shapes these thresholds.
