Aha Moku Advisory Committee
Ka Hana a Kēia Kōmike
The Aha Moku Advisory Committee advises the Board of Land and Natural Resources on natural resource management using traditional Kanaka ʻŌiwi moku (district) knowledge and practices. It is organized around Hawaii's eight traditional island districts and brings indigenous resource management expertise into state decision-making on fisheries, land use, and watershed management. The committee bridges Western regulatory systems and Kanaka ʻŌiwi resource stewardship traditions.
No ke Aha e Mālama Ai
For Kānaka ʻŌiwi and communities that rely on nearshore fisheries, ahupuaa resources, and traditional gathering rights, this committee's advisory role ensures those interests are formally represented in state natural resource decisions. All residents benefit from the ecological stewardship principles the committee promotes.
