Budget Committee

The Budget Committee reviews the City and County of Honolulu's proposed operating budget and capital improvement program (CIP) before full Council adoption. Mālama ʻia budget briefings with every city department, scrutinizes spending priorities, and recommends amendments. The committee also oversees supplemental appropriations and fiscal audits throughout the year.

The city budget determines what gets built, what gets staffed, and what gets deferred. Ka hōʻike lehulehu during budget season — typically February through May — is one of the most consequential opportunities for O'ahu residents to influence how roughly $3 billion in public funds is allocated each year.
