Data Sharing and Governance Working Group

Kēia hui hana developed frameworks and nā ʻōlelo aʻoaʻo for how Hawaii nā keʻena mokuʻāina share data with each other, with the public, and with external researchers, addressing privacy protections, technical standards, and legal authorities for data exchange. It examined barriers to interagency data sharing that limit program effectiveness and the governance structures needed to manage data responsibly. Its nā ʻōlelo aʻoaʻo informed administrative and legislative action on state data infrastructure.

Better data sharing among nā keʻena mokuʻāina can improve the delivery of social services, healthcare, and benefits to nā kānaka o Hawaiʻi by reducing duplicative paperwork and identifying those who need help. Residents also have a privacy interest in understanding how their government data is shared and protected.
