Department of Attorney General

The Hawaii Department of the Attorney General serves as the state's chief legal advisor, representing nā keʻena mokuʻāina in litigation, issuing legal opinions, and enforcing consumer protection, civil rights, and criminal laws. The Attorney General prosecutes major criminal cases, defends nā keʻena mokuʻāina in lawsuits, and advises ke Kiaʻāina and Legislature on legal matters affecting state operations. The department also oversees the enforcement of charitable trust laws and nonprofit compliance.
