Kauai Police Commission

The Kauai Police Commission provides civilian oversight of the Kauai Police Department, appointing and evaluating the chief of police, reviewing department policies, and receiving complaints from nā lālā kaiaulu about police conduct. The commission has authority to investigate the chief's performance and to recommend ka hana hoʻopaʻi up to removal. It is the primary civilian accountability body between Kauai's community and its ka hoʻokō kānāwai agency.

Kauai nā kānaka have concerns about police conduct, department policy, or the performance of police leadership have a direct avenue through this commission. Nā hālāwai lehulehu give residents an opportunity to engage with the commission on ka hoʻokō kānāwai priorities and accountability measures.
