What's Being Discussed

The Hawaii State Council on Developmental Disabilities (DD Council) is holding a public meeting on Kauai to gather feedback on its proposed Five-Year State Plan for 2027–2031. This plan, required by federal law, outlines the Council's goals to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in living more independent, productive, and included lives in their communities.

The proposed plan covers eight priority areas:

• Early childhood
• Education
• Employment
• Family support
• Health
• Housing
• Supports and services
• Transportation

The plan was developed with input from community committees across the neighbor islands, self-advocacy groups, and the general public.

Decisions Expected

No formal votes are expected at this meeting. The main purpose is to collect public comments on the proposed plan before it is finalized. Residents can share feedback in person at the meeting or submit written comments. The deadline to submit written comments is 4:30 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026.
