What's Being Discussed

The Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC) of Hawaii is holding its monthly meeting on July 2, 2026, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. The meeting is open to the public in person at 643 Ilalo St, Suite 1000, Honolulu, or online via Zoom. Key topics include:

• Updates from SILC committees, including surveys, the State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL), advocacy efforts, and finances
• Advocacy updates on upcoming election accessibility, a U.S. Department of Justice memo related to the Olmstead Supreme Court decision (which supports the right of people with disabilities to live in their communities), changes at the U.S. Department of Education, and the federal budget
• A discussion on developing a SILC Strategic Plan — what it is, why it matters, and when it might be created
• Progress on reconstituting the Honolulu Mayor's Committee on People with Disabilities
• A report from attendees of the Vibrant Hawaii Conference
