What's Being Discussed

This is a community meeting hosted by the Kauaʻi Soil and Water Conservation Districts and their federal partners to identify and prioritize local conservation concerns for Kauaʻi's farmlands and natural resources. The meeting at Kapaa Library on August 13, 2026 at 5:00 PM is one of two sessions being held across the island.

Attendees will rotate through four discussion stations covering:

  • Water Resources & Water Quality
  • Soil, Plant Health & Agricultural Productivity
  • Grazing Lands, Forestry & Wildlife Habitat
  • Agricultural Resilience & Emerging Conservation Needs

Representatives from USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) will also present information about available federal programs and assistance.

Decisions Expected

No formal government votes are expected. However, participants will vote on their top five conservation concerns using a priority-ranking activity. This input — along with feedback from an online survey open until August 29th — will shape future conservation priorities, funding decisions, and project development for Kauaʻi.

Who Should Pay Attention

  • Farmers and ranchers on Kauaʻi
  • Landowners interested in conservation programs or funding
  • Anyone concerned about water quality, soil health, or natural resource management on the island
  • Community members interested in shaping local agricultural and environmental planning

Written testimony may be submitted by email to ewkswcd@gmail.com at least 24 hours before the meeting. Those needing accessibility accommodations should contact staff at least 2 business days in advance at (808) 652-7348.
