What's Being Discussed

The State of Hawaiʻi Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) is meeting on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 1:00 PM at 235 S. Beretania Street, Suite 702, Honolulu, or via Zoom. The main topics are:

• Approval of minutes from the May 5, 2026 meeting
• Review of proposed environmental exemption lists from several County of Maui departments — these lists identify routine government activities that do not require a full environmental review. The departments under review are:
  • Department of Environmental Management
  • Department of Fire and Public Safety
  • Department of Parks and Recreation
  • Department of Public Works
  • Department of Water Supply
• Review of proposed exemption lists from two State of Hawaiʻi agencies:
  • Department of Agriculture and Biosecurity, Agricultural Resource Management Division
  • Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation
• Note: The County of Maui Department of Finance exemption list has been withdrawn from review.
• Discussion of the next meeting date and future agenda items
• Public comments on non-agenda issues

Decisions Expected

• A vote to approve the May 5, 2026 meeting minutes
• Possible approval or rejection of the environmental exemption lists submitted by County of Maui departments and two State agencies

• Maui residents concerned about how county departments handle environmental oversight
• People interested in state environmental policy and how agencies define low-impact activities
• Anyone who works with or monitors the Department of Corrections, Agriculture, or Maui county services
