What's Being Discussed
The Hawaiʻi State Board of Education is hosting a community meeting at Hōkūlani Elementary School on Tuesday, November 17, 2026, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. This is one of several meetings being held across the state to gather public input on two important topics:
- Graduation requirements — what students need to complete in order to graduate from high school
- Artificial intelligence (AI) in education — how AI tools and technology are being used, or could be used, in Hawaiʻi's public schools
Board members and education staff will be present to listen to community thoughts and feedback on both issues.
Decisions Expected
No formal votes or official decisions are expected at this meeting. This is a community input session — the Board is listening and gathering feedback, not taking action. Your comments may help shape future policy decisions on graduation standards and AI use in schools.
Who Should Pay Attention
- Parents and families of students in Hawaiʻi public schools
- Students, especially those thinking about graduation requirements
- Teachers and school staff who work with AI tools or are affected by graduation policies
- Community members with an interest in public education in Hawaiʻi
If you need a sign language interpreter, translation into another language, or wheelchair accessibility, contact the Board office at (808) 586-3334 or BOE.Hawaii@boe.hawaii.gov at least three days before the meeting.
