What's Being Discussed

The Maui County Council's Disaster Recovery, International Affairs, and Planning Committee will meet on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. to receive updates on Maui's long-term recovery from the August 2023 wildfires. Presenters from the Office of Recovery and the Department of Water Supply will cover:

• Progress on Maui's Long-Term Recovery Plan, including rebuilding infrastructure and developing the local workforce
• The transition of the Disaster Case Management Program from State to County control, and efforts to move disaster survivors from temporary into permanent housing
• A proposed purchase of water infrastructure from Launiupoko Irrigation Co., Inc. and a portion of land from Kamehameha Schools in Ku'ia to support recovery efforts

The committee also expects to hold one or more closed (executive) sessions to discuss negotiations around property acquisition and to consult with legal counsel.

Decisions Expected

No votes or formal legislative action are planned for this meeting. The committee will receive information and discuss these topics only. Closed sessions may involve negotiation strategy, but no public decisions are expected.

• Residents of Ku'ia and surrounding areas near the proposed land acquisition
