What's Being Discussed

The Maui County Council's Disaster Recovery, International Affairs, and Planning (DRIP) Committee is continuing a multi-day meeting to review the South Maui Community Plan update. This plan would replace the older Kihei-Makena Community Plan and set long-term guidelines for land use, growth, and development in the South Maui region.

• Section 3 – Growth Framework: How and where future growth in South Maui may occur (if time allows)
• Supporting documents, including records of changes made during the plan's development and how its policies connect to broader county and island-wide plans

Decisions Expected

The committee may take the following actions:

• Recommend that Bill 108 (2026) move forward to a first reading, with or without changes
• Decide to file (set aside) the bill without advancing it
• Continue discussion without making a final recommendation
