Board of Education

The Hawaii Board of Education oversees the statewide public school system — the only state in the nation with a single school district. The Board sets education policy, approves Sở Giáo dục's annual budget request, adopts academic standards, and reviews superintendent performance. It also considers school facility plans and equity policies affecting over 170,000 students.

Every public school student in Hawaii is affected by Board of Education decisions. Parents, teachers, and community members can testify at monthly board meetings on topics ranging from school funding to curriculum changes to facility conditions. Because Hawaii has one statewide district, Board decisions apply uniformly across all islands.
