Council of Neighbor Island Advisors

The Council of Neighbor Island Advisors provides a formal mechanism for the counties of Maui, Hawaii, Kauai, and Kalawao to advise the state on matters that disproportionately affect neighbor islands, including resource allocation, infrastructure investment, and state policies that have different impacts outside of O'ahu. It represents a structural counterweight to the concentration of political power in Honolulu. The council's recommendations go to Thống đốc and Legislature.

Neighbor island residents often feel their needs are underrepresented in state government dominated by O'ahu's population. This council provides a formal channel for neighbor island concerns to be raised and documented at the state level, and residents can engage through their county executives and councils.
