Council of the County of Maui

The Maui County Council is the legislative branch for Maui, Moloka'i, and Lana'i, composed of nine members elected by district. It approves the county's annual budget, sets real property tax rates, and enacts ordinances covering land use, zoning, and community planning. The Council also reviews changes to community plan designations and special management area permits for coastal development.

Maui County Council decisions shape housing availability, infrastructure investment, and environmental protection across three islands. Public testimony — submitted in writing or given in person — is accepted on every bill. The Council holds regular meetings on Maui and periodically convenes on Moloka'i and Lana'i so all residents have a chance to be heard.
