Department of Land and Natural Resources

The Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources manages the state's natural and cultural resources including state parks, forest reserves, fishery management areas, coastal zone management, water resource allocation, and historic preservation. It administers the Conservation District, oversees the Commission on Water Resource Management, and enforces regulations protecting native species and ecosystems. DLNR is responsible for millions of acres of state land and the natural resources that make Hawaii unique.

DLNR's decisions affect public access to beaches, trails, and parks; the health of Hawaii's reefs and fisheries; and the protection of the native ecosystems that define the islands. Residents can engage through permit hearings, public land management planning, and the BLNR's open meeting process.
