Employment Security Appeals Referees' Office

The Employment Security Appeals Referees' Office hears appeals from claimants and employers disputing unemployment insurance decisions made by the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations. Appeals referees conduct quasi-judicial hearings, review evidence, and issue written decisions on whether a claimant is eligible for unemployment benefits. Decisions can be further appealed to the circuit court.

If you have been denied unemployment benefits or had a claim disputed by your former employer, this office is where you go to appeal that decision. Hearings are open and claimants have the right to present evidence and witnesses.
