Maui Metropolitan Planning Organization

The Maui Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is the federally required transportation planning body for the Maui urbanized area, responsible for developing the Long Range Transportation Plan, the Transportation Improvement Program, and the Unified Planning Work Program. It allocates federal transportation funds among highway, transit, bicycle, and pedestrian projects in Maui County. MPO decisions determine which transportation infrastructure projects receive federal funding and are built.

Every road improvement, bus route expansion, and bike lane project in Maui's urban area flows through the MPO's planning and funding process; residents can participate in public comment periods to influence those priorities.
