What's Being Discussed
The Human Resources Committee of the Hawaii Employees' Retirement System (ERS) — the state pension fund for public workers — is holding a regular meeting to discuss staffing and leadership matters, including:

A review of the committee's recent activities and schedule
Leadership succession planning for the ERS as a whole
An update on the search for a new Chief Investment Officer
Plans to implement a new state law (Act 149, 2026) that removes certain top ERS positions from the standard civil service hiring process, allowing the agency more flexibility in recruiting and setting salaries. Positions affected include:

Information Security Officer
Deputy Executive Director
Chief Compliance Officer

A proposal to also exempt the Information Systems Branch Chief (an IT leadership role) from civil service rules

The committee will also hold a closed-door executive session to privately discuss a personnel matter involving the Chief Compliance Officer.
