What's Being Discussed

National special education update: A representative from WestEd will share current trends and developments in special education across the country.
Federal accountability rating: The Hawaii Department of Education (HIDOE) will explain the score it received from the U.S. Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) based on its performance report for the 2024–25 school year.
HIDOE priorities for 2026–27: Staff from two HIDOE branches will outline their goals for supporting students with disabilities in the upcoming school year.
Council priorities for 2026–27: Members will discuss and select 3–4 focus topics that SEAC will work on and make recommendations about during the coming year.
Problem-solving approach refresher: The council will review its "Leading by Convening" method, which it uses to tackle complex issues in special education.
Security protocols reminder: A brief review of meeting safety procedures will be shared with members.

Approval of a new parent representative for Maui — Regina Corniel has been nominated to fill the vacancy left by a departing member.
