What's Being Discussed

The State Public Charter School Commission is holding a General Business Meeting on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. The meeting can be attended in person in Honolulu, by Zoom, or by phone.

The main topic is a serious oversight concern involving DreamHouse 'Ewa Beach, a public charter school. The Commission previously issued a formal Notice of Concern related to problems with the school's governing board, including:

• Issues with the school's governing board bylaws and how the board is composed
• Resignations of governing board members

The Commission will discuss what steps to take next in response to these problems. Part of the meeting will be held in closed (executive) session so commissioners can speak privately with their attorney about the school's legal situation.

Decisions Expected

After the closed session, the Commission is expected to vote on next steps for DreamHouse 'Ewa Beach. Options under consideration include:

• Issuing a Notice of Deficiency — a formal warning that the school is not meeting requirements
• Issuing a Notice of Prospect of Revocation — a warning that the school's charter could be taken away
• Reconstituting the Governing Board — replacing or restructuring the school's board of directors
