What's Being Discussed
The State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL) Committee of the Statewide Independent Living Council of Hawaii is holding a one-hour meeting on September 28, 2026, from 12:00–1:00 PM. Attendance is available in person in Honolulu or via Zoom. The main topics include:

Proposed budget increase: A proposal to nearly double the Council's resource plan funding — from $101,615 to $204,488 for fiscal year 2027, an increase of about $102,833.
Updating a reporting requirement: A proposed change to require Centers for Independent Living (CILs) to provide reports on available resources and services in each county.
Public comment process: Planning how and when the public will be notified and invited to give input on the proposed amendments, including outreach to underserved communities.
Long-range planning: Early discussions on developing the next State Plan for fiscal years 2028–2031, including a community needs assessment, "Talk Story" community sessions, and public forums.

Decisions Expected

The committee will discuss the proposed amendments but is not expected to take a final vote at this meeting — a formal public comment period will come first.
The committee will work out a timeline and process for gathering community input before any amendments are adopted.
