What's Being Discussed

The Hawaii Department of Transportation's Medical Advisory Board (MAB) will hold a one-hour meeting on October 5, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. The meeting will take place via Microsoft Teams, with an in-person option available at the Motor Vehicle Safety Office in Aiea, Oahu.

The main — and only — agenda item is a review of 15 driver's license cases from Oahu. No cases are scheduled from Hawaii Island, Kauai, or Maui. These reviews involve applicants whose medical conditions are being evaluated to determine whether they are fit to drive.

Because these cases involve private medical information, the board will move into Executive Session (a closed, confidential portion of the meeting) to discuss them. This is permitted under Hawaii state law when confidential medical or personal information must be considered.

Decisions Expected

• The board will vote to enter Executive Session at the start of the meeting.
• The board will then review each case and make recommendations on whether applicants should receive a Hawaii driver's license, potentially with conditions or restrictions based on their medical situation.
