What's Being Discussed

The Maui County Council's Disaster Recovery, International Affairs, and Planning (DRIP) Committee will meet on Monday, October 5, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. to continue reviewing Bill 108 (2026), which proposes replacing the old Kihei-Makena Community Plan with a new South Maui Community Plan. Community plans guide how land is used and how communities grow over time.

The committee will focus its discussion on:

• Section 3 – Growth Framework: How and where South Maui is expected to grow in the future
• Section 1 – Plan Framework: The overall structure and goals of the plan
• Section 5 – Appendices: Supporting documents and background materials

Decisions Expected

The committee will not be taking any formal votes on the Growth Framework section at this meeting. However, members may consider and vote on amendments to other sections of the plan. No final adoption of the full plan is expected at this meeting.

• Residents of South Maui, especially those in the Kihei and Makena areas, as this plan will shape future development in their neighborhoods
• Property owners, developers, and businesses in the South Maui region
• Environmental and community advocates concerned about growth, housing, and land use
